In honor of Earth Day April 22, 2011, we decided to find out what some of our favorite hotels are doing to mark the 41st anniversary of this very important day.

Take a mid-week break Tuesday, April 19 to watch the Full Moon rise above the Atlantic at one of Fort Lauderdale’s best parties. The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale has partnered with the Everglades Foundation, (www.evergladesfoundation.org ) joining in their efforts to protect and restore Florida’s native ecosystem and wildlife, to unveil their new logo chosen from over 700 entries collected earlier this year, initiating their new campaign to protect America’s most famed subtropical wetland.

For just $10, Ritz-Carlton will give you a seedling to start your own herb garden and a complimentary cocktail for your good intentions. All proceeds will benefit Everglades Foundation.

Earth Day at the Ritz-Carlton

From guests to hotel staff, The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale commemorates Earth Day on April 22. Guests will enjoy complimentary non-alcoholic beverages on the 7th floor tropical pool deck served in reusable, souvenir bottles while hotel staff will be given environmentally friendly, recycled grocery bags and effective tips on how to reduce energy consumption at home.

Through April 30 enjoy a 50-minute organic, detoxifying Hungarian Mud treatment, designed to extract impurities from dull and sun-damaged skin to cleanse, improve circulation and create glowing skin. For reservations please contact The Spa at (954) 302-6490.

Kimpton Hotels – Nationwide

Kimpton Hotels will celebrate Kimpton EarthCare Week from April 15 to 22, 2011. From pop-up eco art exhibits to organic spa packages and recycling drives hotel guests and restaurant diners can participate in Kimpton EarthCare Week events and offers in 23 cities nationwide.

Activities include:

Pop-Up Eco Art Exhibits

Select Kimpton hotels will partner with local artists to create pop-up exhibits in hotel lobbies that feature works of art made from recycled materials. Artists will be on hand at scheduled wine hours during Kimpton EarthCare Week to discuss their work with guests and visitors.

National Eco Step Challenge

All Kimpton hotels will make available pedometers at the front desk and challenge guests (and their pets) to pound the pavement and rack up steps to win playful prizes at wine hour, daily during Kimpton EarthCare Week.

Lights Out Power Hours

All Kimpton hotels will host wine hour by candlelight to conserve energy for two hours on Earth Day, April 22.

Farmer’s Market Excursions

Select Kimpton Restaurant chefs will offer farmer’s market excursions and cooking demonstrations that celebrate the season’s bounty. Diners can like their favorite Kimpton Restaurants on Facebook for information about upcoming EarthCare Week events.

Organic Restaurant Menus

During Kimpton EarthCare Week, every individual Kimpton restaurant will offer its own special organic menu highlighting local ingredients and flavors.

Charles Hotel – Cambridge MA

In honor of Earth Day 2011, The Charles Hotel in Cambridge, MA is launching several eco-friendly guest initiatives. For example, The Charles Hotel currently utilizes a guestroom green program, recycles, composts, uses environmentally-friendly products and offers a complimentary tire inflation station within its parking garage. For Earth Day 2010, The Charles Hotel lowered the temperature of hotel rooms and public spaces by one degree and they plan to do the same for Earth Day 2011. This year the hotel will also be offering the following special:

Down to Earth package, available through June 30, 2011.

• Overnight accommodations in a deluxe guestroom at The Charles Hotel

• A signed copy of Chef Peter Davis’ (chef at Henrietta’s Table) cookbook, Fresh & Honest

The Down to Earth Package starts at $299 per room, per night, based on double occupancy, not including taxes and gratuity.
